Using the Microphone (mic) Looper for Music Making and Clinical Music Therapy Work (7 credits)

Course Description

Self-study. Using the Microphone (mic) Looper for music making and clinical music therapy work. This course will provide mic looper instruction focusing on using this recording device for spontaneous recording/layering of instrument and vocal music parts.

The course is presented as video based lectures that require you to watch the individual lessons, practice what is being taught then take a post test at the end of the course for final evaluation.

*** Is owning a microphone looper required before taking the course?

No, the course can be taken and trying many of the discussed examples can be done using a cell phone voice recorder, iPad or tablet voice recorder or by recording layered parts using computer based DAW applications like Garageband, Ableton Live, ProTools, etc.

***Why then is a looper device used if recording can be done on the devices described above?

Layering of more than one part is not possible on phone/tablet voice recorders and computer based DAW applications are not as portable and are much more expensive. Also, computer based DAW applications are not practical for live music making. But the biggest reasons why the Mic Looper is outstanding is because it is so portable and it allows for “on the spot,” spontaneous layering of parts. Perfect for live music making for performers and music therapists. Go to YouTube and watch professional musicians use loopers in their performances.

PDF handouts will be provided for you to print off, use and keep.
