Course Description

This education course, “Guitar: Song Introductions & Endings” with David Putano MT-BC is presented as video based lectures that require the participant to watch the individual lessons, practice what is being taught, then take a post test at the end of the course for final evaluation.

The purpose of this course is to provide music therapy professionals continuing education credits for instruction related to guitar competency.

In this course you will receive  guitar instruction that demonstrates and suggests song introductions and endings to help you expand your knowledge, thus being better able to perform more diverse, musical interpretations of songs when playing live guitar in your music therapy work, i.e., for pre-composed songs, original compositions and for improvisation.

  • PDF course related handouts will be provided for participants to print off and use.

  • Please take note… After each video lesson that teaches a guitar concept or technique, if that concept or technique is new to you, spend at least 10 minutes practicing that lesson. This time is factored into the course time schedule.

Learning Objectives (relevant CBMT domain areas)

By the end of the course instruction participants will be able to (***or begin to):

  • Apply three of the suggested song introductions and endings to songs they currently play. (III.A.5.aa) (III.A.5.b) (III.A.5.n) (III.A.5.cc)

  • Explain at least three song introduction and song ending concepts that they were exposed to during this course. (III.A.5.t) (III.A.5.aa)

*** the reason the language “begin to” is included is because all guitar players are at varying degrees of development and competency. This course covers basic information that all music therapy professionals can play and information that at times, is of a more advanced level. At this time, those with less experience can be exposed to this information then apply the more advanced techniques in the future as their skills develop.
