Knowing how to conceive and write appropriate and effective music therapy goals and objectives are necessary skills for all music therapists.
How to effectively conceive of and write music therapy goals that are achievable, measurable, realistic, specific and time bound.
How to write goals and objectives that are helpful to the clinician as well as the client, their families, their agencies and insurance companies and granting organizations.
Develop knowledge, skills and appreciation in the area of writing music therapy goals and objectives.
Be able to apply principles of SMART goals to establish music therapy goals and objectives that are achievable, measurable, realistic, specific and time bound.
Be able to articulate information gathered in assessment and translate into goals and objectives that can be easily understood by clients, their families and other professionals.
Be able to collect and organize data gathered in music therapy sessions to evaluate and adapt goals and objectives for therapy as needed.
(II.D.6.a-e) Establish client goals and objectives that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-limited. (II.C.5) Communicate assessment findings and recommendations in an understandable and useful manner in various formats (e.g., oral, written, audio, video, electronic record-keeping systems). (III.B.7) Provide written documentation that demonstrates evidence-based outcomes related to addressed goals/ interventions.
