Heather Palmer MSEd., MT-BC
Heather is a board certified music therapist and owner of It Is Music Time LLC. She received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Heidelberg College and during her final teaching experience she had the opportunity to work with at risk students and saw the power of music which lead her to a career in music therapy. Heather continued her education at Indiana University – Purdue University, Fort Wayne where she received her Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy, Minor in Psychology, and Gerontology Certificate. She went on to complete her training in Kindermusik providing additional training in ages 0-8. Heather completed her Masters of Education in Special Education from Indiana University – Purdue University, Fort Wayne so that she could better advocate for her client’s needs and create academic programs target to fit their learning styles. Heather became a Baby Signing Time Instructor after hearing stories from families whose children learn to speak and sign through the DVDs.
Heather has experience working with individuals with autism, down syndrome, speech impairments, hearing impairments, cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities. Her work with disabilities lead her to publish several Ebooks that include The Music Therapy and Autism Handbook, You Can Strum Vol 1 and Vol 2, and Sing Along with Santa Chords and Lyrics.
Heather has presented at state, reginal, and national conferences on using toys along with the music therapy interventions to promote communication. Several of the songs and interventions can be paired with ASL to encourage communication development.
Heather volunteers at GiGi’s Playhouse Fort Wayne where she is one of the program leads for LMNOP ages 0-5 program. During LMNOP Heather incorporates the Baby Singing Time curriculum along with her most sought after music therapy songs and interventions.
Heather believes that there is nothing more precious than sharing the gift of music to facilitate growth, communication, and development through music. She is dedicated to providing individualized services to help increase independence and communication using whatever means possible to help them to achieve their goals.
